Summary

Dockter is a menu for your own apps, folders and bookmarks. It collects no personal data on our servers — we don't have any. What you put in Dockter stays on your Mac. Dockter asks the internet for three things only, and only when you turn them on: the weather for a city you choose, exchange rates, and the icons of websites you bookmark.

Who is responsible

Dockter is made by NAE Dev. For any privacy question, contact nae_dev@icloud.com.

Your data stays on your Mac

Your folders, app shortcuts, bookmarks and settings are stored in a file inside Dockter's own container on your Mac, shared only with Dockter's own Share extension so a link you share lands in the same place. We run no servers of our own and never receive, see or store any of it.

Calendars and reminders (read-only, optional)

If you turn on the Calendar Events or Reminders items, Dockter reads today's events and due reminders from macOS to show them in the menu. It reads only; it never creates, edits or deletes anything, and nothing is sent anywhere. Access is off until you allow it, and you can withdraw it at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Window names (Screen Recording)

To list an app's open windows and tabs under Running Apps, macOS requires Screen Recording permission, because window names are part of what that permission covers. Dockter reads window names and nothing else: it never records, captures, photographs or stores your screen, and nothing leaves your Mac. Without the permission, Running Apps still lists your apps, just not their window names.

Weather, exchange rates and city search

These are the only times Dockter uses the network. Weather comes from Apple's WeatherKit: the coordinates of the city you picked are sent to Apple to fetch a forecast, and Apple's own privacy policy covers that request. When you search for that city, what you type is sent to Apple Maps to find it — Dockter never asks for or uses your location. Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank through Frankfurter, and from ExchangeRate-API for currencies the ECB doesn't publish; only currency codes are sent. None of these requests include your name, your Apple Account or anything you keep in Dockter.

Website icons for your bookmarks

So a bookmark looks like it does in a browser, Dockter asks the bookmarked website for its icon, once, and keeps a copy on your Mac. That request goes from your Mac to that website, exactly as visiting it would, so the site can see that a request was made. Nothing about you or your other bookmarks is included, and sites that have no icon are simply remembered as such.

Files, folders and apps you add

Dockter stores the location of the items you add, plus the permission macOS gives it to open them again later. It opens them in Finder or their usual app when you click them; it never reads their contents, and never copies or uploads them.

Sharing links into Dockter

The Share extension receives only the page you explicitly share — its address and title — and saves it as a bookmark. It never reads the page. The optional browser extension does the same thing in browsers that have no macOS Share menu: it passes the current tab's address and title to Dockter on your Mac, and sends nothing to any server.

No accounts, no ads, no tracking

Dockter has no sign-up, no login and no account of its own. There is no advertising, no ad SDK, no third-party analytics and no tracking of any kind, across apps or websites. Because nothing is tracked, no tracking permission is requested.

Purchases

Dockter is free to use for 30 days and then needs a one-time purchase through the App Store. The App Store handles the payment; we never see your card details or your Apple Account. The date your trial began is kept in your Mac's keychain so that reinstalling doesn't start it over, and it may sync through iCloud Keychain to your other Macs. It is a date and nothing more.

Your control

Everything Dockter holds is yours to export, replace or erase: Dockter Settings › Data offers Export, Import and Clear Data, which resets everything to its defaults. Deleting Dockter removes its data from your Mac. Permissions you granted for calendars, reminders or Screen Recording can be withdrawn at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Data retention

Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete.

Children's privacy

Dockter is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Security

Your data is protected by your Mac's own security, including FileVault if you use it, and by the sandbox macOS puts Dockter in. There is nothing on our side that could be exposed, because nothing of yours is on our side.

International data transfers

The few requests described above go to Apple (weather and city search), to Frankfurter and ExchangeRate-API (rates) and to the websites you bookmark (their icons). Those providers may process them on servers in other countries under their own policies. We are not involved in that processing, and none of it identifies you.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
